Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition very much associated with the modern world, especially assembly line work. Pain and burning in the wrist that leads to numbness in the hand, often brought on by the lunate wrist bone placing pressure on or squeezing the median nerve.
Symptoms, such as tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain in the fingers or hand, usually occur in the thumb, index finger, and middle fingers. Sufferers of carpal tunnel syndrome might notice symptoms occurring first at night, and might be able to receive some relief by shaking the hand. As symptoms increase, people will feel tingling during the day as well as decreased grip strength.
Once diagnosed with carpal tunnel, a patient should seek treatment immediately to help prevent long-term damage to the nerve. Thankfully, chiropractic helps to treat carpal tunnel very effectively. Chiropractors essentially put the lunate wrist bone back into place without the need for surgery.
A common treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome is chiropractic care of and adjustments to the affected wrist and arm as well as the upper spine. Misalignment in the spine is a contributing factor to symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
At MG Chiropractic, Dr. Mason Greenslade will use a combination of instrument adjustment, tissue manipulation, and an exercise program to help alleviate carpal tunnel syndrome pain and suffering. Instrument adjustment, or Advanced Certified Activator, is the safe and comfortable technique that utilizes a small device to touch, manipulate, and impact joints—in particular the wrist, arm, and back. Myofascial Release therapy will be utilized to apply direct pressure, and Erchonia cold laser therapy for targeting specific tissue areas affected by the symptoms. Additionally, simple exercises will be recommended to aid in the carpal tunnel syndrome therapy.
